 SEASON 2009/10

EARLY END TO ALICE'S SEASON

Having scored two goals in last week’s 3-1 win over Laurel Park in her new boots, Alice Thackray had the misfortune of breaking her wrist in a training ground accident on Monday evening which will rule her out for the remainder of the season.

Alice is in good spirit and will be supporting the team from the sidelines over the coming weeks but it will be a long time before she goes back in goal.

BEST WISHES TO ALICE FROM ALL THE SQUAD

Congratulations to all the girls, the two league wins last weekend secures 'Runners up' spot just behind 'Champions'Woodley Kestrel Bows who have had only one defeat this season.......

Saturday 6th March 2010

Wokingham & Emmbrook  1  v  0   Reeves Rangers

Belles dominated this encounter but had only a Lara Taverner well executed volley to show for it at the end of the day. The girls played some lovely football but squandered some poor misses in a goalless 1st half. The Reeves keeper played well but could not prevent Wokingham scoring when Morgan Merryweather burst forward and her cross was met at the near post by Lara who volleyed in from close range. A goal worthy of winning any match. Dominique Baldwin celebrated her 50th appearance in a Wokingham shirt with a clean sheet as she was rarely troubled.

Team:  Dominique   Emma S   Morgan    Cori    Lara    Hannah    Jazz

Subs:  Emma H  and Becks       Player of the Match: Jasmine Tuson

Wokingham & Emmbrook  5  v  1  Woodley Kestrels Belles

Morgan Merryweather scored a sensational goal from her own half in the very 1st minute and Wokingham never looked back as they raced into a 4-1 half time lead. Playing some great football, Jasmine Tuson finished a fine move when shooting left footed low past the keeper.Minutes later the same player chased onto a long ball forward by Morgan Merryweather and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper into the goal to lead 3-0.Woodley pulled a goal back with a fine strike just outside the box but Wokingham went straight down the other end and Hannah Mitchell cut inside and hit a screamer into the top corner just before the break. Hannah grabbed her second when she volleyed in a long throw by Corianne Burgess at the start of the 2nd half, chance after chance came Wokingham's way as they played some good football but saw some laughable misses.

Wokingham & Emmbrook   3  v  1   Laurel Park

To mark my 50th game in charge of the 'Belles', the girls secured a comfortable win against strugglers Laurel Park even though the score was 1-1 at half time.

The girls had loads of possession but wasted several chances and even when shooting on target, they found the Laurel keeper hard to beat. Alice Thackray broke the deadlock in the 20th minute only for the Wokingham defence to mess up minutes later and allow Laurel to score with their only shot on goal to equalize before the break.

Lara Taverner  restored the lead in the 2nd half tapping in from close range before Alice Thackray grabbed her 2nd when she capitalised on a keeper error to get Wokingham's third.

Team : Dominique Baldwin,Emma Scholey, Corianne Burgess,Becks Coede, Morgan Merryweather, Lara Taverner, Alice Thackray. No subs.

BRACKNELL DYNAMO  0  v  6  WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK

With Bracknell Dynamos rooted to the foot of the table,Wokingham took the opportunity to reshuffle the team and give some players a different experience. Regular goalkeeper Dominique Baldwin had a fantastic game wide left midfield and even opened the scoring after 15 mins when her shot went inside the far post. Jasmine Tuson added a second five minutes later when she swivelled and volleyed following a corner by Dominique. Just before the break Jasmine scored again after being put through by Lara Taverner she calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.

In the 2nd half further goals by Hannah Mitchell and Rebecca Coede and spectacular goal by Gaby Hollow in the closing minutes made it a day to remember for a certain little girl. Well done and congratulations to Dominique and Gaby on scoring their first competitive goal.

Team: Rebecca Coede,Emma Scholey,Gaby Hollow,Alice Thackray,Lara Taverner

Dominique Baldwin,Jasmine Tuson.

Subs : Morgan Merryweather,Hannah Mitchell,Cori Burgess

Player of Match : Emma Scholey

Saturday 6th February 2010

Wokingham & Emmbrook  3  v  0  Woodcote

Wokingham bounced back from last weeks defeat with a good win against an improved and determined Woodcote side that never gave up throughout. Starting at a good pace Wokingham attacked in the early stages and took the lead through Hannah Mitchell after 10 minutes. This goal was the 'Belles' 150th goal scored since forming 3 seasons ago.

Wokingham increased their lead after 20 minutes when Jasmine Tuson scored from close range in a goalmouth scramble.

With the defence looking solid and dealing with any Woodcote attacks, the midfield trio creating some fine chances, the only thing missing was some clinical finishing as chances went begging. Wokingham didn't seal the win till the closing stages when following a shot by Cori Burgess,Jasmine Tuson was first to react and strike home at the second attempt having been foiled by the keeper on the first.

Team: Dominique Baldwin,Cori Burgess,Morgan Merryweather,Hannah Mitchell,

Lara Taverner,Becks Coede,Jasmine Tuson.

Subs Gaby Hollow,Emma Scholey,Alice Thackray

Saturday 30th January 2010

Wokingham & Emmbrook  0  v  2  Woodley Kestrel Bows

The girls nine match winning run came to end and with it any aspirations of retaining the league championship as Woodley moved 2 points clear and a game in hand with only 6 games remaining.

With neither side having played for 7 weeks, the football was not of good quality but as normal these two teams produced an entertaining battle. Wokingham started well and when Beck's shot from an acute angle hit the back of the net it seemed things were going well but the referee rightly adjudged the ball had travelled through the side netting. Disappointed, the girls were a little upset when moments later Woodley scrambled the ball over the goal line when it appeared the Wokingham goalie had the ball in her hands.

Keen to get back into the game after the break Wokingham pressed forward only to be caught on the break and to everyone's surprise concede a 2nd goal. Undeterred of the challenge the girls battled on and forced the Woodley keeper to make two exceptional saves in the closing stages to break Wokingham hearts.

Team: Dominique Baldwin,Cori Burgess,Morgan Merryweather,Hannah Mitchell,

Lara Taverner,Becks Coede,Jasmine Tuson.

Subs Gaby Hollow,Emma Scholey,Alice Thackray,Emma Harris.

WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK 13 v 0 BRACKNELL DYNAMO

In their final game of 2009 Wokingham recorded their biggest win in three seasons and completed a memorable year clinching last seasons title back in April and going through the year losing only 2 games.

Wokingham started well and took the lead through Morgan Merryweather, she added two further goals to complete her hat trick in 7 minutes. Rebecca Coede scored the fourth before Morgan added two further goals all within the opening 20 minutes. Rebecca scored her 2nd and Wokingham's seventh just before half time.

Up until this time goalkeeper Dominique Baldwin didn't have a single touch so was given the chance to play in midfield, performing very well and nearly scored in the 2nd half.

Alice Thackray scored a fine goal to make it eight before Corianne Burgess broke forward and scored her first. Jasmine Tuson got in on the act and added Wokingham's tenth before Corianne scored her second of the day. With the game coming to an end their was still enough time for Lara Taverner to grab two final goals to complete an amazing game.

Team :  Dominique Baldwin,Gaby Hollow,Corianne Burgess,Morgan Merryweather,Lara Taverner,Rebecca Coede,Emma Harris.  Subs  Jasmine Tuson,Alice Thackray

Goals : Merryweather (5) Coede (2) Burgess (2) Taverner (2) Tuson,Thackray.

BEND IT LIKE BECKS

Saturday 5th December 2009

U13 Girls

Wokingham & Emmbrook  2  v  0  Whiteknights

A stunning strike from Rebbeca Coede early in the 2nd half inspired the girls to their eighth straight win of the season and a further goal by Morgan Merryweather ensured the victory in a hard fought battle on a heavy pitch.

At the end of a frustrating 1st half in which Wokingham failed to score with several chances going just wide of their target and a pitch that made flowing passing football difficult for either side to play entertaining football.

It took a lovely strike from Becks with her right foot from outside the box that sailed in the top corner giving the keeper no chance. The goal gave Wokingham some sense of relief and now they began to push forward creating more chances and when Morgan Merryweather's goal bound corner was deflected in off a defender to lead 2-0 the points were safely in the bag.

Player of the Week went to 'Becks' for her fine performance in delivering some fine passes and crosses, then capped off with a fantastic memorable goal.

STROLL IN THE PARK FOUR HAPPY HANNAH

Saturday 21st November 2009

WOKINGHAM/EMMBROOK GIRLS   4  V  0  LAUREL PARK GIRLS

It took just 5 minutes for Hannah Mitchell to put Wokingham in front against Laurel Park, the side currently occupying bottom place in the league. Turning past her marker on the edge of our box she was given the space to run the length of the entire pitch before sliding her shot past the Laurel keeper. Moments later she added her second when she found herself unmarked in the box and fired home to lead 2 goals to nil.

In their first season in the league,Laurel Park had no idea that they were up against the league's most prolific scorer over the last 2 seasons but it wasn't long before Hannah completed her hat trick when she smashed another shot into the visitors net after 15 minutes. Just minutes later Hannah added a fourth goal when beating the keeper from a tight angle to give Wokingham a comfortable lead at halftime.

Wokingham continued after the break to dominate the game and create many fine chances but could not add any further goals as the Laurel keeper made some fine saves to keep the score line to 4-0.

Woodcote 0  v 6 Wokingham & Emmbrook

Wokingham had little trouble in winning this tie against league newcomers Woodcote but that did not seem the case at half time as we had failed to break the deadlock having hit the post three times in the opening period.

Halftime substitute Jasmine Tuson took just 5 minutes to score two goals and ease a little pressure before Alice Thackray struck a hard shot from long range to give us a 3-0 lead. The attacks were then coming thick and fast,Jasmine completed her hat trick when finishing from close range. Morgan Merryweather added Wokingham's fifth when the keeper failed to hold a shot she tapped home over the goal line. Cori Burgess scored the last and best goal of the game when she fired in from an acute angle to seal a comfortable win.

Player of the Week  went to Jasmine Tuson for her 3 goals in 15 minutes.

BYDL U13 Girls

WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK   1   0   WOODLEY TOWN KESTREL BOWS

Sometimes its not how good you are but how bad you want it and on today's performance the girls showed they have no intentions of giving up their league title just yet. Games against Woodley are always tight and competitive and on their performance today its clear to see why they are currently top and were unbeaten until this encounter.

Wokingham started well and could of taken the lead after 5 minutes when Lara Taverner so nearly slotted home only to see her shot come off the post. Morgan Merryweather then tested the keeper with some long range efforts before Jasmine Tuson skipped past a couple of defenders and struck a fine shot into the roof of the net to give us the lead on 15 minutes. Before the break Woodley came back into it but found no way past Dominque Baldwin who was having a fantastic game in goal.

In the 2nd period Woodley threw everything at us and never have i seen 7 girls fight for so long to protect their lead. It wasn't pretty flowing football with skill and chances, this was a gritty rough tough and sweat performance like i never seen before. Its fair to say that the half didn't pass without scares as Woodley applied all the pressure and nobody was more relieved than me to hear the referees whistle to end the game as the players looked shattered as they had given their all for the cause. Well done to everyone.

Saturday 10th October 2009 BYDL Under 13 Girls

Wokingham & Emmbrook FC   5  -   1 Woodley Town Kestrel Girls

Wokingham overcame Woodley Town Kestrel Girls by 5 - 1 but had to battle hard before finally securing their 3rd win of the season. Hannah Mitchell opened the scoring but moments later Woodley equalised, Jasmine Tuson restored Wokingham's lead with her first goal for the club on her full debut just before the break. Rebecca Coede increased the lead early in the 2nd half but it wasn't till late on when Hannah Mitchell scored 2 more goals to complete her first hat trick of the season.

Saturday 3rd October 2009

WTK BELLES     0       3    WOK & EMM BELLES

Two first half goals by Hannah Mitchell and a late own goal ensured Wokingham gained their 2nd win of the season and climb further up the league.Woodley trailed by two goals at the break but improved vastly in the 2nd half and tested Dominque in our goal more than once.

Hannah Mitchell scored 2 well taken goals and for her effort in the 2nd half to secure the win when she ran just about everywhere and made some very telling defensive challenges she picked up the 'Player of the Week' award.

 Saturday 26th September 2009

WOK & EMM BELLES    2      0     REEVES RANGERS

After two very disappointing defeats Wokingham then produced one of their best displays since being appointed manager as they defeated Reeves by just a couple of goals. A first half volley by Rebecca Coede gave the Belles the lead which was further increased when Reeves scored an own goal in the 2nd half. But this win was good and had it not been for some poor misses then the score line would have been much greater.

Player of the Week was awarded to Corianne Burgess for her dominant performance at the back and her creative forward passes from the back.

Saturday 19th September 2009

WOK & EMM BELLES    1      2   WHITEKNIGHTS

Having led at the break by an Alice Thackray strike Wokingham were caught out and hit on the break by 2 second half goals to slump to their 2nd defeat of the season. Although the performance was better this really was a game we should of won but credit to Whiteknights for 2 good strikes from outside the box that caught us out.

Lara Taverner once again had a good game in midfield working very hard to win the ball back and tackling well to win the 'Player of the Week' award.

 Saturday 12th September 2009

TILEHURST PANTHERS   5      0   WOK & EMM BELLES

The new season got off to the worst possible start when keeper Dominque Baldwin reported back injured before the game had even begun. Having taken a fitness test prior to kick off, it soon become clear after conceding 2 goals in the opening 10 minutes  that the decision to play was the wrong one. Belles reshuffled around with defender Alice Thackray going in goal and looked better as the game went on.Trailing 2 - 0 at the break Belles threw everything at Tilehurst in the 2nd half but could not score and just to rub salt into our wounds Panthers broke away twice in as many minutes to increase their lead to 4 - 0.In the closing minutes Panthers added another to inflict our biggest every defeat in 3 seasons.

Player of the Week award went to captain Morgan Merryweather who battled hard and created chance after chance but without any success.
