The under 12s donned their new kit for the first time after their two seven-aside youth teams merged.

Wokingham and Emmbrook Youth Football Club has merged the two teams, which took part in last season’s league, to create an 11-aside team to represent the club in this season’s under-12 league.

Self-storage company Ready Steady Store in Molly Millar’s Lane is sponsoring the footballers by providing the kit for the newly formed team.

Last season the boys played as Wokingham and Emmbrook Orange and Black teams.

They competed in the top division of the Berkshire Youth Development League, with the Orange team winning the League Cup.

Neil van den Dungen, youth section chairman, said: “It is refreshing to be supported by a local business that is looking to support the local community.

“The combination of the players into one 11-aside team is highly exciting and we anticipate a very good new season ahead.

“The club and team would like to thank Ready Steady Store for the striking new kit.”

Andrew Cotterill, area manager at Ready Steady Store, added: “We are pleased to support Wokingham and Emmbrook Youth Football Club by donating a new kit to its under-12 youth team and wish them all the best for the upcoming season.

SEASON 2009/10

BERKSHIRE DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE – U12s CUP QUARTER FINAL

Saturday 12th December 2009

Purley Jubilee Red 2 Wokingham & Emmbrook 1 (after extra time)

Wokingham & Emmbrook U12s bowed out of the League Cup after being narrowly edged out 2-1 after extra time to Purley Jubilee Red.

Due to a combination of injuries and unavailability Wokingham only had a bare eleven but set out in determined fashion.  After dominating the early stages Wokingham fell behind when a long ball was brought down and guided into the net giving keeper Harry Ramsey no chance and taking Purley in 1-0 at half time.

The second half saw Wokingham apply more pressure and make shift striker Yannick Marriott burst through and hammered his shot beating the keeper but unfortunately smashing against the cross bar. However shortly after a superb through ball from Aaron Winkleman found the hard working James Denton whose shot was well saved but Marriott was on hand to rifle the rebound home to level the scores and take the game into extra time.

The remainder of the game was end to end with James Dinsdale at the heart of all Wokinghams play and his non stop effort throughout the game nearly reaped reward when in extra time a through ball saw Marriott burst through only to see his shot narrowly go wide of the post. With the game looking like being decided on penalties Purley launched an attack that was well defended but the ball fell to a Purley player on the edge of the box and his shot was fired high into the roof of the net to send Purley through.

Wokingham albeit depleted in numbers battled throughout and the second half saw every player giving 100% and whilst tiredness crept in they were unfortunate to be on the losing side.

However Wokingham managed to begin to impose themselves and a good finish from captain Tom Howarth saw them go in at the break 3-1 down.

The players naturally disappointed by their first half performance were determined to make amends and with a tactical reshuffle took their game to their opponents and effectively dominated much of the play. With constant pressure Wokingham began the come back with goals from Connor Cummings, Aaron Winkleman and with 3 minutes remaining the winner from Ben McMahon with a great header from one of many superb corners delivered by Ryan Munday.

Purley Jubilee Red 3 Wokingham & Emmbrook 4

Wokingham & Emmbrook U12s turned in a Jekyll & Hyde Performance against Division 1 rivals Purley Jubilee red winning 4-3 after trailing 3-0.

From the kick off Purley seized the initiative and with Wokingham struggling to find any kind of composure Purley were 3-0 up within 20 minutes. The first a long range effort deceiving keeper Harry Ramsey followed by 2 further goals and in fact with additional chances and a disallowed goal Wokingham could have been further behind.

However Wokingham managed to begin to impose themselves and a good finish from captain Tom Howarth saw them go in at the break 3-1 down.

SAT 21st November 2009- Berkshire Youth Development League

Wokingham & Emmbrook 5- Meadway 1

Playing against lower division opposition, Wokingham were forced to show their battling qualities against a determined Meadway team. Having taken an early lead with a good strike from James Dinsdale, Wokingham then struggled to increase the score hitting the post twice before Jack Thomas scored to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

In the second half Meadway deservedly scored to close the gap but as the game progressed Wokingham began to impose themselves and scored 3 further goals with 2 more for Thomas to complete his hat trick and a well taken finish from James Denton.

Fair play award winner was Ben McMahon.

Berks and Bucks County Cup Sun 22nd November 2009

Wexham United 0 Wokingham & Emmbrook  2

The second game of the weekend saw the team travel to Wexham United of the Slough League.

In a fantastic advert for youth football, both teams showed excellent skills and fast flowing football. Wexham started brightly and keeper James Holmes was at his best making 2 great saves. At the other end Wokingham threatened twice before Aaron Winkleman showed great determination dispossesing a Wexham defender, racing away and calmly placing the ball wide of the keeper. Shortly after, a good 5-man move ended with Ben McMahon firing past the Wexham keeper to take a 2-0 half time lead.

The second half was just as lively, with both teams passing the ball well and whilst 2nd half keeper Harry Ramsey had to be alert and made one particularly good save- with the wind in their favour Wokingham continued to threaten and created some excellent opportunities but despite great approach play the elusive 3rd goal never came and Wokingham had to settle for a final score of 2-0. A superb all round performance in a very entertaining game.

WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK U12s  4 CAVERSHAM CRUSADERS 0

SAT 17 OCTOBER 2009

Wokingham & Emmbrook U12s moved into the next round of the League Cup with a 4-0 victory over Caversham Crusaders  The first half saw Wokingham sieze the initiative and after a good move involving James Dinsdale and James Denton ,  Aaron Winkleman turned in the area only to see his shot blocked but Jack Griffiths was on hand to strike home the rebound . Shortly after a surging run from Jack Thomas resulted in a hasty challenge that was rewarded with a penalty that Winkleman fired into the bottom corner despite a valiant attempt by the keeper to save it .

The score remained at 2-0 to half time but in the second half Wokingham raised the tempo and after going close on several occassions Jack Thomas added the third and Yannick Marriott fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to complete the scoring . .

Wokingham & Emmbrook U12s kick started their season with 2 fine victories over the weekend (10/11th October 2009).

On Saturday in a hard fought game, Wokingham overcame Caversham Kites in Division 1 of the Berkshire Youth Development League. The first half was dominated by Wokingham with Aaron Winkleman finishing a good move and then Kieran Smith doubled the lead with an excellent free kick from 25 yards after good work by Tom Halson. Caversham replied quickly thereafter but Wokingham increased their lead to go in 3-1 at half time. The second half was more even and Wokingham further increased their lead when Tom Howarth turned in a well delivered corner. From here on Caversham piled on the pressure and despite pulling 2 goals back, were unable to level in particular due to some fine goalkeeping by James Holmes .

The team then followed this up on Sunday with a victory in the County Cup over Maidenhead Warriors.  The team started strongly and took an early lead through William Proctor who was a constant threat down the right hand side. Similarly James Denton down the left caused many problems and good link up play with Aaron Winkleman set up the hard working Ben McMahon. With James Dinsdale and McMahon dominating the midfield, Wokingham continued to threaten but Maidenhead pulled a goal back when a lob from distance sailed into the net over keeper Harry Ramsey. Thomas Howarth and Kieran Smith were dominant at the back and in the second half a great strike from Jack Griffiiths increased the lead. William Proctor then doubled his tally, however with 5 minutes remaining Maidenhead scored with a good header that squeezed past the keeper  The game was settled in the final minute when from a Maidenhead corner Cameron Hughes released Winkleman who burst past his marker on the half way line and raced through to calmly wrap up the tie .

SEASON 2008/09

Wokingham & Emmbrook U11s final tournament of the season just saw them miss out on another Tournament success .

The squad were split into 2 teams A and B. Both teams finished runners up of their respective groups - The A team winning 4 and losing 1 game whilst the B team won 3 , drew 1 and lost 1 game .

However this resulted in both teams meeting each other in the Quarter Final . It was the B team who seized the early initiative with Jack Thomas netting after good work by Aaron Winkleman followed  shortly after with a great strike from James Denton . The A team never gave up but after going a further goal down scored by Winkleman it looked very difficult but a superb long range effort by Cameron Hughes put the A team back in the game only for Ben McMahon to increase the B team lead but again the A's stormed back with good work from Matt smart and a great cross being met on the volley by James Denton to finish the scoring 4-2 to the B team .

In the semi final The B team took on hosts Ashridge Park and again a powerful start saw Thomas and Winkleman combine to score . Wokingham continued to dominate and were unlucky to see Thomas hit a post but shortly after some good passing football  saw Kieran Smith finish well to double the score . Ashridge though showed great determination and after pulling a goal back nearly levelled but strong defencive work and good goalkeeping saw them into the final.

In the final the tiredness began to show and Wokingham were unable to raise their game and had to settle for runners up losing 3-0 in the final to Eldon Celtic who scored 3 good goals and may have added to this except for some great saves by Keeper Harry Ramsey who had an excellent tournament .

Another fantastic display by both Wokingham teams .

A Team - James Holmes , Yannick Marriott, Jack Griffiths,Cameron Hughes, James Dinsdale, Matt Smart, William Proctor ,  Jordan Greeenough

B Team - Harry Ramsey , Connor Cummings , Sam Bannister, Kieran Smith, Ben McMahon, Jack Thomas, Aaron Winkleman, James Denton

h Memorial Tournament.

With 2 teams Wokingham & Emmbrook won their group in style winning with 3 wins and a narrow defeat. Meanwhile Wokingham & Emmbrook Orange also played some great football and were unfortunate to narrowly finish runners up in their group winning 2, drawing 1 and again narrowly losing their final game having already qualified for the knockout stages.

However as a result of group placing both teams met in the Quarterfinal. In a fantastic end to end game the orange team came out on top courtesy of a great strike from James Denton.

In the semi-final Wokingham & Emmbrook Orange met Binfield who had yet to lose a game. Wokingham dominated the early stages and after going close a superb move saw Wokingham open up Binfield and Aaron Winkleman getting the final touch after excellent work from both Winkleman and Kieran Smith. With seconds remaining a Binfield corner was half cleared but a superb volley from Binfield saw it cannon off the bar into the goal. With a 1-1 draw it came down to penalties. Binfield found Harry Ramsey in great form in goal saving 3 of Binfield efforts which meant Winkleman’s and Smith’s efforts settled the game.

In the final against Pinewood, again Wokingham seized the early initiative and were rewarded when Winkleman turned superbly and scored what was to be the decisive goal. With Matt Smart, James Denton and Kieran Smith working hard in midfield plus Winkleman always a threat up front, chances continued to be created. At the other end Ramsey in goal, superbly supported in defence by Yannick Marriot, Oscar Guest and Sam Bannister restricted the opposition to few chances as they had done all afternoon.

A great team performance and it was fantastic to see the losing team staying on to support their teamates.
