February 20th 2010

Wokingham & Emmbrook 0 - 2 Woodley Town Kestrels

After last week’s fantastic win, the boys suffered a complete reversal of fortune conceding a two goal defeat to Woodley Town Kestrels.  The match was a nail-biting tale of lacklustre energy, poor position and missed opportunities.  Woodley Town opened the scoring when their striker smashed the ball over the top of the Wokingham goalie to hit the back of the net.  They made it two less than a minute later when the ball snuck in the bottom left hand corner of the goal.  A late cross from Colm Casey to striker Jay Wiltshire created the best opportunity for Wokingham & Emmbrook to score but like other notable chances from Adam Blee, Kian Duncan and Ben Moore, the boys failed to make it count today.

Wokingham & Emmbrook 1 - 0 Purley Jubilee Red

Fair Play Award: Jack Hoban, Ben Moore, Kieron Little

U10 coach Lee Duncan couldn’t have asked more from his boys today.  They played brilliant football, retaining their positions throughout the match, making the best use of the space and defending well.  The end result was a well-deserved win and much-needed points.

After several attempts foiled by the opponent’s keeper, Wokingham striker Jay Wiltshire finally found the back of the net in the 9th minute of the game to open up the scoring.  Purley Jubilee fought back hard, keeping defenders Kieron Little and Ben Moore on high alert.  Keeper Jack Hoban made a number of superb saves denying the opposition any chance of levelling the score.

Kian Duncan, Colm Casey and Adam Blee were a force to be reckoned with up front  - boosted by the fresh legs of sub Kobi Khaliq in the final minutes- but failed to find the net for a second time.  The best opportunity came from Kian Duncan who chipped a superbly positioned cross from Adam Blee over the bar.  But it was not to be and the boys were thrilled to settle for a 1-0 win.

BYDL U10s Div 1 Caversham AFC 2 - 1 Wokingham & Emmbrook

Saturday 6th Feb 2010

Fair play award: Jay Wiltshire

As has happened in so many of our matches this season, today's end result wasn't a fair reflection on the game.  After an extended Christmas break, the boys' energy levels were high, they held their positions throughout the game and consistently used the space well.  Ben Bartlett and Ben Moore delivered their usual rock-solid defence.

However an unlucky slip in muddy conditions by Wokingham keeper, Jack Hoban, saw the ball land firmly at the feet of the opposition’s striker just outside the box.  With Hoban temporarily out of action, Caversham’s striker wasted no time in finding the back of the net.

Wokingham came back fighting and created a number of notable chances including two great crosses from Kieron Little, a powerful strike from the halfway line by Adam Blee and separate lobs over the bar came from Colm Casey and Ben Moore.  Jay Wiltshire played a very strong game and received the fair play award for his efforts.

The opposition was equally determined to win and scored their second goal early in the second half. Wokingham subsitute Kobi Khaliq came on to replace injured Ben Bartlett, playing a superb game on the left wing.   With energy levels beginning to drop in the closing minutes of the game, Adam Blee took possession of the ball.  He steam-rollered up the pitch making mincemeat of Caversham’s mid-fielders and defenders to score Wokingham’s first goal of 2010.

Wokingham & Emmbrook vs Caversham Trents

12th November 2009

Score: 1-4

Fair play award: Jack Hoban

Today's defeat was an unfair reflection of the great football played by Wokingham & Emmbrook; they performed well with accurate passing and intelligent play.  In the opening minutes goalie Jack Hoban was powerless to stop Caversham Trents' first goal as their mid-fielder powered down the right wing, leaving Wokingham & Emmbrook's defenders out of position and unable to help.

Wokingham & Emmbrook rallied quickly and Caversham Trent's goalie was kept busy with with a slew of attempts from Kian Duncan, Colm Casey, Jay Wiltshire and Kieron Little.  A cheeky chip from Ben Moore cleared the crossbar but it was a superb cross from Adam Blee that brought the score level.  The tables turned minutes later and Jack Hoban felt the force of Caversham's strikers.  Despite the best efforts of Jack Hoban, and defenders Ben Moore and Ben Bartlett, Wokingham & Emmbrook conceded a further three goals.  The balance of possession was definitely in Wokingham & Emmbrook's favour in the second half but the boys left it too late to take advantage.

Maidenhead Colts 1 - 0 Wokingham & Emmbrook

December 5th 2009

Fair play award: Kian Duncan and Ben Bartlett

Despite having the lionshare of the play, a lucky rebound past first half goalie Jay Wiltshire saw Wokingham & Emmbrook surrender two points today.  However, undeterred by the opponents' early goal, Wokingham & Emmbrook remained focused to play positive and upbeat football throughout.

Kian Duncan and Colm Casey did much of the attacking keeping the ball in Maidenhead’s half.  Kian Duncan was first on target for the Satsumas but his hard worked shot went over the bar.  This was closely followed by a cross from Adam Blee which went wide and minutes later Kieron Little's ball rolled straight to Maidenhead Colts' keeper.

Thanks to defenders Ben Bartlett and Jack Hoban Maidenhead Colts hardly troubled 2nd half goalie Adam Blee as Wokingham & Emmbrook had good possession and created several good chances.  More used to defending, Ben Moore did an admirable job down the right wing keeping the ball forward. Unfortunately, the boys left their lazer-focused shooting boots at home today and were unable to make their hard work count.

BYDL U10s Division 1

Wokingham & Emmbrook 0 - 3 Woodley Saints Lions

Saturday 28th November 2009

Today's game wasn't the boys' best performance as they failed to take advantage of several chances - and last week's fine form was in short supply.  Woodley Saints Lions piled on the pressure from the start steamrolling through Wokingham & Emmbrook's defence to score three convincing goals.  The boys found themselves over-run in midfield and struggled to contain Woodley’s cohesive approach.  Wokingham & Emmbrook finally swung into action at the start of the 2nd half but all attempts to score were foiled by Woodley Saints’ great defending.

Saturday 21st November 2009

Wokingham & Emmbrook U10 2 - 2 South Reading U10s

Fair play award: Adam Blee and Jay Wiltshire

Wokingham & Emmbrook U10s put on a superb performance today holding South Reading to a nail-biting 2-2 draw.  The result was particularly impressive as the boys were without two of their key players - Kieron Little and Ben Moore. Substitutes Dom Berisha and Joseph Day slotted in neatly to reinforce the line-up.

The match was lively from the first whistle.

Adam Blee was in fine form today making light of South Reading's defence to score an early first half goal.  An equaliser from South Reading followed but Wokingham & Emmbrook remained focused on the job in hand.  Colm Casey, Adam Blee and Jay Wiltshire kept the pressure on South Reading, hitting the post, kissing the cross-bar and forcing two saves.  Then in a move started by Dom Berisha, Blee squared the ball to Jay Wiltshire and his strike found the back of the net taking the boys ahead.

Kian Duncan played some great football in mid-field, helping to keep the ball forward and creating opportunities.  However, the opponents were equally determined and Colm Casey was kept busy in goal in the second half.  Despite the best efforts of defenders Jack Hoban and Ben Bartlett, South Reading equalised in the 31st minute and the boys had to settle for a draw this week.

BYDL U10s Division 1

Wokingham & Emmbrook 2 - 2 Woodley Town Kestrels

Fair Play Award: Kieron Little and Kian Duncan

Today’s game was definitely a game of two halves.  During the first half the boys struggled to find form and failed to perform to the standard we’ve seen in recent games. As a result, Kian Duncan had a lively first half in goal.  The strong partnership between Kieron Little on left wing and Adam Blee up-front created chances but a break in Ben Bartlett and Jack Hoban’s defence left Wokingham & Emmbrook one goal down at half time.

The half-time team huddle led by coach, Lee Duncan, was what the boys needed and Wokingham & Emmbrook played much improved football in the second half.  Within minutes Adam Blee converted a cross from Jay Wiltshire to score the equalizer.   Their celebrations were short-lived, however, as Woodley Town Kestrels got the better of second half goalie Colm Casey to go one goal up again.  With much-needed points within their grasp Wokingham & Emmbrook weren’t prepared to give up and a cross from Adam Blee to Kieron Little levelled the score at 2-2.

Wokingham & Emmbrook vs Purley Jubilee Red BYDL U19 Division 1

14th October 2009

Fair play award: Adam Blee and Colm Casey

Todays’s game was a feast of attacking football which resulted in a point a piece.

The first two goals came within minutes of each other early in the first half: a long shot from Jack Hoban hit the cross bar and was tapped in by Adam Blee and the second was a sublime curling shot into the top right hand corner, again by Adam Blee.

In goal, Kian Duncan was kept busy by some swift counter attacks from Purley and as a result, Wokingham & Emmbrook conceded two goals in quick succession.

The second half started well as Ben Moore and Ben Bartlett helped to keep possession in Wokingham's favour. As the half wore on, injury and a lapse in concentration resulted in Purley scoring twice more.  Wokingham refused to lie down and Colm Casey did a superb job in goal. With only a few minutes remaining, a Kieron Little cross was headed home by Adam Blee and with time running out, Blee once again rose to the challenge with a crisp volley from the edge of the box to bring the score level at 4-4.

Saturday 10th October 2009

W&EFC 0 - 1 Caversham AFC

Fair Play Award: Jack Hoban

Today's game was evenly matched.  Both sides played well and created equal chances.  However, only one team could win - and the goal Wokingham conceded in the 2nd half gave the points to Caversham AFC.   Kieron Little and Jay Wiltshire ran their socks off in mid-field, creating lots of opportunities but the boys couldn't find the back of the net today.  Ben Bartlett, Jack Hoban and Ben Moore were solid at the back and made several good passes up to the strikers.  Adam Blee and Kian Duncan worked well up front and came close to scoring on several occasions. A notable great cross from Matthew Marriott to Kieron Little looked like it was on target but it went wide.  Our 2nd half goalie, Kian Duncan, found himself in some serious action on a couple of occasions and was really unlucky not to to have prevented Caversham AFC from scoring.  In the dying minutes of the game Colm Casey started a move which nearly clinched the draw but Kieron Little's lob skimmed the woodwork and the win went to Caversham AFC.

Saturday 3rd October

Wokingham & Emmbrook 2 - 1 Maidenhead Pythons

Fair Play Award: Adam Blee

Wokingham & Emmbrook were the stronger team this week and their hours of training came good with a 2-1 win over Maidenhead Pythons.  The final score didn't reflect the great football we saw from the boys today but they came away with well-deserved points all the same.  Of note, the two goalkeepers, Kian Duncan and Colm Casey gave superb performances today but Fair Play award went to Adam Blee, who linked-up well with the other players throughout the match.

The first goal came in the 10th minute when Adam Blee converted a great cross from Jay Wiltshire.  Colm Casey created another chance minutes later but Jay Wiltshire couldn't find the power needed to make it count.  In the 12th minute a penalty given against Ben Bartlett, was stopped in its tracks by goalie, Kian Duncan. Kieron Little's determination to get on the score sheet for the first time this season was realised just before the half-time whistle and put Wokingham & Emmbrook 2-0 up.

Early in the 2nd half, despite the best efforts of Jack Hoban and Ben Moore in defence, the opposition snatched a goal.  In the closing minutes Mattie Marriott and Adam Blee created some great opportunities but in the end they had to settle for a 2-1 win.

September 19th 2009

Wokingham & Emmbrook 1 v 2 Purley Jubilee

Fair Play Award: Jay Wiltshire

Today was one of those games that could have gone either way and overall the game was evenly balanced.  Unfortunately the last kick of the ball in the dying seconds of the game determined that the result didn’t fall in our favour and the points went to Purley Jubilee.  However, we saw lots of improvement from the previous week’s game and the work-rate was high.

After a sluggish start, the pace picked up with both teams showing equal determination and tackling hard.  Kian Duncan was kept on his toes in goal in the first half, with a great early save and Jay Wiltshire delivered a text-book performance in mid-field today. After several missed opportunities a moved started by Colm Casey saw Adam Blee score the first goal of the match.  Kieron Little, strong on the wing, was oblivious to the pressure from Purley’s defenders and had a great crack at goal – only for it to be caught by the keeper.  Another noteworthy attempt came from a corner taken by Adam Blee: Jack Hoban caught the ball on the rebound but it just skimmed over the cross-bar.  Ben Bartlett caught a nasty ball in defence and was replaced by Ben Moore.

A lapse of concentration early in the second half saw Purley Jubilee equalise.  Mattie Marriott, Kieron Little and Kian Duncan worked well up-front but despite their best efforts, Wokingham’s second goal didn't result.  Adam Blee did a great job in goal, saving several shots in succession but a very lucky rebound saw Purley Jubilee score the winning goal in the final seconds of the game

Wokingham & Emmbrook v Kennet Valley

12th September 2009

Score: 0-2Fair Play Award: Ben Bartlett

The first match of the season is always a tough one.  And given that today’s opponents are a particularly strong side, it was always going to be a challenging game.  Mattie Marriot and Jay Wiltshire made their debut for Wokinghan & Emmbrook. The boys started well with an early shot at goal by Adam Blee skimming the woodwork and landing just wide of the mark.   Ben Bartlett and Ben Moore paired well in defence and Kian Duncan in the mid-field (1st half) did a sterling job of dropping back to bolster the team’s defence.  Two goals from the opponents in relatively quick succession unsettled Wokingham initially but Kian Duncan bolstered the boys’ spirits with two attempts to score – both saved by the keeper.  Kieron Little delivered a strong first performance of the season in the 1st half, replaced by Jack Hoban in the 2nd half.  As the game progressed we saw flashes of the brilliant play we know the boys are capable of and they created a number of chances - a superb shot by Adam Blee from the half way line was caught; Jay Wiltshire just missed out on a goal taking the ball wide; a double-act attempt from Adam Blee and Colm Casey was saved by the keeper and Jack Hoban’s ball couldn’t find the back of the net.  All in all a tough game today but with the season just beginning, Wokingham & Emmbrook U10s have everything to be positive about.

Wokingham & Emmbrook  2 - 1 Arborfield Apaches

After a chilly 1hour delay, the match finally got underway. Arborfield Apaches kicked off and Wokingham were in attacking form from the off. Wokingham dominated the first 15 minutes, passed the ball well and attacked as a unit so it was well deserved when Enow scored in the 16th minute.

Wokingham & Emmbrook kicked off the second half with the Apaches starting strong but with good solid defending from Thomas Lane and little Joshua, the Wokingham defence stood firm. Oliver Pizura dominated the midfield and 10 minutes in to the half, managed to pull the ball back and send it goalwards to Don Berisha who slid in for an easy tap in.

Five minutes from the end, Aborfield managed to pull one back with a well taken goal but the junior satsumas battled on to retain their lead.

A great win!

The fairplay award was given to Oliver Pizura.
