Summary Code of Conduct – Fair play in Football
Parents and Spectators :
§ Never force a child to play football, they have to enjoy it.
§ Praise effort and performance more than results.
§ Praise good behaviour quickly, to show that adults appreciate it.
§ Applaud good play by either team.
§ Do not argue with the officials – they are volunteers – respect their decisions.
§ Do not coach from the sidelines or shout at a child if they make a mistake.
§ Stay off the pitch during matches.
§ Do not use foul or abusive language.
§ Enjoy watching the game, regardless of the result.
Managers and Coaches :
§ Emphasise fun and enjoyment and treat all players equally
§ Ensure your players understand the rules and encourage them to play by them.
§ Set good examples by being friendly towards the opposing team.
§ Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activities.
§ Never shout, argue or swear at your team or the opposing team.
§ Respect the officials’ decisions.
§ Encourage your team to shake hands at the end of the game – regardless of the outcome.
Players :
§ Play because you enjoy football, not to please someone else.
§ Learn the rules of football and play by them.
§ Accept the officials’ decisions as final – do not argue.
§ Do not attempt to mislead the officials by faking an injury – abide by the rules of sportsmanship.
§ Control your temper and your mouth and do not over-react when your team scores a goal.
§ Shake hands at the end of the game – regardless of the result.
